Please note

References do not always correspond to a single page document, but may relate to a file with as much as 1000 pages of documentation. The documents are not paginated and it is not possible for us to indicate how many pages a file may contain. For this reason, we recommend that you consult the file yourself or have a free-lance researcher do the work for you.

* Proof of identification is required:

Students: a photo identification card confirming full-time status as a student at an accredited educational institution

Senior Citizens: a document, preferably with a photograph, confirming date of birth (e.g.: driver's licence, birth certificate, provincial health insurance card, passport)

ID cards must be presented in person or a photocopy must be sent with the written request.

Applicable taxes will be added to the total cost. Orders mailed outside Canada are tax exempt.

Service Standards and Terms and Conditions - Photocopy or PDF

The following factors affect the time it takes to process an order:

  • the number of items ordered;
  • the need to search for additional information; and
  • the workload.

Please submit your request well in advance of your deadline or choose the rush service.

Regular Service

Orders are processed within 30 business days of receipt.

Rush Service

Orders are processed within 5 to 10 business days of receipt. Rush service applies only if the following conditions are met:

  • reference number is provided;
  • copyright status and access restrictions have been established;
  • access and copying restrictions do not apply or a letter of permission is included with the order;
  • requested documents are available;
  • "rush service" is indicated on the request;
  • consent to pay the additional surcharge of 100% is indicated on the request; and
  • prepayment is made.

Service Standards
Please note that written requests cannot be processed in less than five business days for the following reasons: time required to register requests; delays of 24 hours for delivery of documents from off-site storage; time required by staff to identify requested documents.

Price of postage varies by weight and by destination of the mail item. Prices are subject to annual postage or mail service rate increases.

Canada

All orders will be shipped by regular mail service through Canada Post unless any other method of delivery is indicated on the order, e.g., courier air or courier ground services (indicate the courier name and account number).

United States and International

All orders will be shipped by airmail unless any other method of delivery is indicated on the order, e.g., courier air or courier ground services (indicate the courier name and account number).

Method of Payment

Written requests

You have the option to pay by credit card (a LAC employee will contact you) or to be invoiced. Copies will be shipped as soon as the work is completed and the amount will be charged to your credit card.

In order to accelerate the processing of your order, it is recommended that you use the on-line Order Form for Photocopies and Reproductions and that you chose the pay by credit card option.

In-person requests

Cash, Interac card, credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express) and debit card for the Self-Serve Copying Service.

Government employees

Payment must be done by using the interdepartmental settlement system. The process requires the following three codes: the department number, the organization code and the reference code.
