The Société d'histoire et de généalogie Maria-Chapdeleine received its charter on 8 March 1988. In its function as an archives, its mandate is to preserve and arrange documents and to make them accessible to the public. The society serves the 14 municipalities in the regional municipality (MRC) of Maria-Chapdeleine. Its library has a number of genealogical books, microforms, periodicals, archival fonds, and CD- ROMs.
