The 1851 Census offers a rich source of information about Canada East (Quebec), Canada West (Ontario), New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the middle of the 19th century. Much of the actual census-taking did not occur until 1852 since the planning was not completed in time and so, it is also sometimes referred to as the Census of 1852.
As this is not a nominally-indexed database, it is not searchable by family name. Our search tool allows researchers to search by Province, District Name, District Number, and Sub-district Number.
Please note that parts of the 1851 census did not survive, therefore no digital images exist for the missing records.
