  • Identifies the importance of the accomplishments of athletes, and the importance of a chosen sport to Canadian national culture.

Criterion: Reading for various purposes
Attainment Descriptor:

  • Locates relevant information about a chosen sport from a variety of sources.

Program Area: Writing
Criterion: Writing for various purposes
Attainment Descriptors:

  • Organizes ideas from tables (in student handout) for use in a presentation.
  • Creates a poster communicating the following information:
    • Merits of the sport
    • Merits of exercise
    • Some Canadian athletes who have excelled at the sport

Program Area: Oral and Visual Communication
Criterion: Use of conventions appropriate to grade
Attainment Descriptors:

  • Makes a presentation using different techniques to highlight important information, including posters, overheads, music, props, demonstrations and/or other means practical and available.
  • Speaks clearly and uses appropriate variety in volume, rate, tone and pitch, pacing, emphasis, and inflection.

  • Listens attentively in order to organize and classify information and to clarify discussion.
