Criterion: Identification of importance of groups or individuals
Attainment Descriptor:
- Identifies the importance of the accomplishments of athletes, and the importance of a chosen sport to Canadian national culture.
Program Area: Reading
Criterion: Reading for various purposes
Attainment Descriptor:
- Locates relevant information about a chosen sport from a variety of sources.
Program Area: Writing
Criterion: Writing for various purposes
Attainment Descriptors:
- Organizes ideas from tables (in student handout) for use in a presentation.
- Creates a poster communicating the following information:
- Merits of the sport
- Merits of exercise
- Some Canadian athletes who have excelled at the sport
Program Area: Oral and Visual Communication
Criterion: Use of conventions appropriate to grade
Attainment Descriptors:
- Makes a presentation using different techniques to highlight important information, including posters, overheads, music, props, demonstrations and/or other means practical and available.
- Speaks clearly and uses appropriate variety in volume, rate, tone and pitch, pacing, emphasis, and inflection.
Program Area: Oral and Visual Communication
Criterion: Co-operative group work
Attainment Descriptor:
- Listens attentively in order to organize and classify information and to clarify discussion.
Program Area: Visual Arts
Criterion: Production of a two-dimensional work of art
Attainment Descriptors:
- Produces a poster with the following elements:
- Images depicting the sport in action and the equipment used
- Balance of visual elements (layout of text and images, use of colour)
