Get your fix at the Political Junkie Café as we discuss conflict, diplomacy, policy, and politics. Special guests Andrew Cohen and Ann Livingstone will look at contemporary peacekeeping and the career of Lester B. Pearson, including his groundbreaking work with the United Nations, which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize, and his achievements as the leader of minority governments.

Andrew Cohen
Andrew Cohen is a best-selling author, syndicated columnist and associate professor at the School of Journalism and Communication and the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. He has written for The Ottawa Citizen, United Press International, The Financial Post, Time Magazine and The Globe and Mail. His books include The Unfinished Canadian: The People We Are and While Canada Slept: How We Lost Our Place in the World.

Dr. Ann Livingstone
Dr. Ann Livingstone is the Vice President of Research and Education, at the Pearson Peacekeeping Center, a not-for-profit, Canadian-based institution dedicated to improving the effectiveness of peace operations around the world. A graduate of Anderson University, Indiana, Dr. Livingstone earned her Masters at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and did post-graduate studies at Oxford University, and was awarded her Ph.D. from University of Keele (UK).

Welcome everybody, thank you very much for coming tonight. My name is Melanie Brown. I’m the manager of the Forum on Canadian Democracy. I would like to invite Doug Rimmer, the Assistant Deputy Minister, up to introduce our guests.

Thank you Melanie. Good evening everyone, on behalf of Ian Wilson, I would like to thank you all for joining us at the Political Junkie Café. This series is part of the LAC Forum on Canadian Democracy which promotes Library and Archives Canada’ mandate to be the permanent memory of the Federal Administration and its Institutions.
