Hidden in the Documents: Discovering Loyalist Stories
In this seven-lesson unit, students will learn some details of the lives of various Loyalists through examining a variety of primary-source documents available on the "EvidenceWeb" section of Library and Archives Canada's Learning Centre website. They learn to "read" a painting, speech and army discharge notice, among other documents, and use their historical imaginations to create a paper postcard and an electronic slide show, brochure or newsletter. In a culminating activity, they share their learning at a Loyalist Day celebration.
