Cod Fishery



For over 240 years, inshore fishermen have been catching cod fish off the banks of Prince Edward Island. In the census of 1728, there are recorded 127 fishermen. They had 8 schooners and 19 shallops engaged in the fishing industry. Their total catch for the year was 221,081 kg (487,400 lbs) of cod.
