 For over 240 years, inshore fishermen have been catching cod fish off the banks of Prince Edward Island. In the census of 1728, there are recorded 127 fishermen. They had 8 schooners and 19 shallops engaged in the fishing industry. Their total catch for the year was 221,081 kg (487,400 lbs) of cod. Prince Edward Island Public Archives
