Pub Poems - from her book - by L. Diane DeMan

The Back Door

In they come, it’s Friday...Pickups rollin’ in.
Anticipation’s high...feeling like we’re kin.
Tanned ladies off the beach...cooling off their heat,
Workers strolling in...getting off their feet.
The many hats are saying “Who’s who and where they’re at.”
Some just want to sit, and cultivate their fat.
Pool players, social workers, some on Lotto machines,
The girls in high-heeled shoes...thinkin’ they are queens.
One gal’s clothes all wrinkled...the chubby man is slick,
Beer saleman’s here, and the jokes are quick.
Housewife is in curlers...there’s the worn out logger,
Businessmen still working...Proud sweaty jogger.
Pretty redhead smiles...Retired man’s not tired,
Waitress is still good...doesn’t need to get fired.
Newspapers do come out, and angers, loves and cares,
Some couples hand in hand. Thank God for pairs.
Clever Bartender..keepin’ all “in line,”
Me, here writin’...putting in the time.
The Neon Sign’s lit up...there’s “Specials” everywhere,
Mirrors we can look in...Am I here, and are you there?
Juke box is playing, “ I’m gonna love you forever,”
The dancers aren’t here yet...but they’ll go on forever.
They carry on regardless...the social folks will gather.
Sometimes it does come out...the other things we’d rather.

The Two of You

Heckle and Jive...
You’re Jeckle and Hyde,
Whistling a tune...with a smile on your face,
Four beers later...
A total disgrace!

The Heart-break of Low Blood Sugar

The planet is in trouble, from this self-induced disease...
Hypoglycemia can be a home-wrecker...pass the sugar please.
Imagine us, no coffee, butts, or booze or sweets.
The Advertising world would die.
Would we ...from lack of treats?

Advice?

“If you snooze, you lose”
he said, half-asleep.
