Alistair Macduff was born at Glasgow, Scotland, but at an early age, the family moved to picturesque Helensburgh, overlooking the River Clyde, just a few miles from Glasgow. Alistair excelled in sports...swimming and boxing...was and is a better than average musician who still regularly plays the pipes. In his formative years, Macduff became enthralled with pottery. He went on to become an important potter and held many exhibitions in the major galleries of Scotland and England. He opened his own gallery in Scotland. At the urging of the Canadian Government, Alistair Macduff accepted a post with a Canadian Crown Corporation where his mandate was to search out, evaluate and market the art of the Canadian Inuit.
When he left government service, Alistair opened another art gallery, this time in Victoria, Canada, where he dealt in Canadian Inuit art and developed an important clientel. At retirement, Mr. Macduff was a consultant to an Asian art gallery and that led him to make a number of trips to Asia in search of pottery and paintings. Many trips to Spain has made that country a favourite of his.
