Ode to the Y2K Hoax

....By Samuel Person, January 3, 2000

I, for one, never took too seriously to the threat of the Y2K business, and considered it one of the great hoaxes of our time (or any time for that matter). With the affair largely behind us now, except for some minor events which may occur, I have summarized my post-January 1, 2000, thoughts in the little "ditty" following:

The Y2K problem came and went
And nary a computer was bent
The experts who warned about the new millennium morn
Have now become the object of scorn

The economists who warned of a world wide recession
Are now ready to make a concession
It may be that all went well
Because upon the problem so many did dwell

Those who stocked up on food
Are no longer in the mood
With all their supplies they are stuck
Since the world has not run amuck

It may have been a large hoax
And certainly will be the source of jokes
Until another event like it comes along
It feels good that the gurus were wrong.
