who in turn was responding to Ann Dolin and her Suffering at Santanna

Somehow I was not surprised by your reaction to as you mentioned, yet another tragic incident involving young people. Fortunately it is not so easy for the rest of us not to dwell on these tragedies. I agree that any young life lost is tragic and I sympathize with all of the grieving parents who are asking why. I am also insulted but not surprised that you would feel the need to point out that people die every day. On this particular day I along with many others was dwelling on this tragic incident and thus the poem. I think that if I were to write a poem about the beauty of wild flowers in springtime, I might receive a response from Richard Koss that would read something like this. To Ann Pottle Dolin:
I agree that wildflowers are a beautiful thing but while appreciating their beauty we mustn't forget that they are none the less wild. These flowers have been around for years and still no one has managed to tame them. I seem to recall that years ago these wildflowers although untamed, were at least aware of their place and were more apt to refrain from just moving in and taking over any neighborhood. Unlike the young wildflowers of today we could rely on them to do the right thing. If the behavior of these younger wildflowers continues to go unchecked I fear that eventually the important flowers like roses and tulips may become extinct. What kind of a world would it be without roses and tulip?
I do not proclaim to have all the answers - - - Ok, well as a rule I do proclaim to have all the answers - - - but I must admit I am perplexed by this wildflower epidemic. Many will blame the elder wildflowers, stating that it's been proven that wild begets wild. I disagree with this theory and remind you that many poor, hardworking wildflowers have raised wildflowers that have grown to become prominent upstanding flowers in our communities.
I'd like to just once be able to turn on the news without hearing about a new outbreak of wildflowers running rampant. As long as there is an audience for these unruly pesky flowers, there will always be the few that continue to sprout their pedals wherever they please. We must not encourage this type of flower behavior.
And though I feel strongly about this problem, I am not proposing that the government get involved. Legislation to tame these flowers will in turn hamper the ability of all flowers to bloom and flourish in a nourishing environment. Dear Richard:
Might I suggest a nice long walk on the beach or maybe a glass of Merlot on the patio? It was just a poem, not a proclamation Sincerely,
Ann Pottle Dolin
