Hi Bill,
I just wanted to thank you for your openness in publishing the critical responses to Mr. Dane's piano article which must not go uncommented. I am sure you have learned by now that his stand is untenable, at least for us who live with these beasts called early pianos. I am shocked by Mr. Dane's reactions to Dr. Birkett's critique, and even more shocked to see that you are now getting his broadside. Not wishing to fuel the fire more than necessary, I wrote my critical comments to Mr. Dane directly. That seems to have keyed him off even more, inspite of his argument that that is what Birkett should have done in the first place.
I am very sympathetic to your cause. Online publishing with a certian level of integrity must be undertaken, and it seems to me that you are doing just this. Very unfortunate that you have suffered this setback as it were. Please don't give up, at least not on this account. Rest assured that the knowledgable people in the our small world have sized up M. Dane, and classified him where he belongs. I am quite sure that no one is putting you or Inditer to blame. Please accept my apologies for any unfortunate repercussions I may have unwittingly caused.
Sincerely Yours,
William Jurgenson
