"Bush and Cheney"

Bush and Cheney, Environmental Egalitarians

In George W. Bush and Dick Cheney we finally have national leaders who see the environment in its true scope. Their environmental vision is comprehensive and exalting. They are our first environmental egalitarians.

To demonstrate how they've earned this distinction, let's look at at the environmental impact of their response to our current energy shortage. Pseudo-environmentalists and petty quibblers berate the plan, so eloquently put forth by Vice President Cheney, to increase supplies of fuel rather than depend on conservation. Much of the new supply would come from coal and nuclear power. The vision behind this plan is truly comprehensive and egalitarian.

Why shouldn't coal and nuclear power assume their rightful place within the spectrum of energy generating resources essential to insuring that every American has an equal right to ignore conservation and drive an SUV? But energy supply is only half the picture. The other half is environmental equality.

Bush and Cheney recognize, as perhaps none have before, that increased and exclusive reliance on the energy triad of coal, nuclear power and oil, with conservation rightly dismissed as "personal virtue", will introduce a new age of environmental egalitarianism. Their far-sighted energy policy will insure that every citizen can enjoy the same environmental benefits now enjoyed by campers in the strip mines of West Virginia, bird-watchers on Three Mile Island and picnickers on the L.A. Freeway.
