Remnants....by Don Barnfather
a sudden spasm
and the sinking of the sun
a twitching, jerking death
then gray.
the remains of the day
tainted morsals for
the beggar at a feast
now ended.evening calm emerges
a sneak thief pretender
to the throne
stealing the crown with grubby paws
wearing the mantle
until another morning's glory
then
slinking away in a coward's retreat.
RemnantsTerrible CityBoulanger....by Don Barnfather
terrible city
so new
so ugly
condemned like a shark
to perpetual motion
building rebuilding
death rebirthso intense and threatening
impregnated with an aura
that sucks out your breath
there is no place for joy in these
flat, sterile buildings that
jostle for space like
rush-hour commuters.
-with rooftops
that barge and shoulder their way
through the bemused sky
threatening the clouds like arrogant bulliesas the stars look on unimpressed.
....by Don Barnfather
alien children
flaunt
and skip
vivid clear dementedmusic blows
floats
and sways
no one
leaves the circleno influence
of history
shadows
this creationthe tunes are
theirs
and theirs
alone
conductor dare to meddle
and deep below
the terrible stagein darkened seats
an audienceweeps its applause
