Be-Wab-Bon Metis and Non Status Indian Association
Be-Wab-Bon is the first off reserve Aboriginal organization
to be formed in Simcoe County, established in 1974 and incorporated since 1976. Located
on the southern shores of Georgian Bay, it has a rich history involving shipping, the
railway and tourism. Historically it has been a passageway for journeying.
The membership has been stable at around 400 members. Many
of the members have roots with Beausoleil First Nation and ties with the Coldwater Narrows
Reserve, (presently no longer existing), indicating a migration off the reserve and
integrating into urban life on the mainland.
The economic development with this organization is extensive.
Business currently established are:
- Be-Wab-Bon Boat Rentals.
- 26 km of Walking Trails, 1 km of dock wall and 4 parkettes.

are working to set it up. The system will produce 3 modular homes per 24 hour day in
the future. The building covers an area equivalent to 9 acres. Other areas will be
rented out for storage by other industries in the immediate area. There is also a 7,000
sq. ft. Skate Board Rink in the building.
- Subcontracting - presently building a 12 plex with 2/3 of site completed. Offices
are located on the ground floor and residential units above.
The past history of Be-Wab-Bon's economic development includes
the construction of 54 subsidized houses in Port McNicoll. The spirit of entrepreneurship
is nurtured by having a vision and a business plan that they commit to and adhere to.
Working directly with individuals to foster growth by offering training, the collection
of data relevant to their needs and relying on current data to support their endeavors are
other means to encourage entrepreneurship. They have a bright outlook for continued
success and growth in the future stating, "We are just beginning!"
