It has been an excellent learning experience working on the Aboriginal Business Directory. Prior to this, I have not had much experience on web page development. I am very much in support of developing our First Nation communities, so it was in my best interest and pleasure that I was involved in creating a site that will promote Aboriginal businesses in our region.
What I’m up to...
I moved to Barrie, Ontario to attend The School of Hospitality and Tourism at Georgian College. There I studied Hotel and Resort Operation for two years before becoming employed at the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) as the Aboriginal Tourism Assistant.
I am currently sitting on a Curriculum Development Steering Committee as the chairperson to assist in the development of an Aboriginal Tourism Management program. The committee has to follow guidelines and develop a curriculum that will meet college standards in order for this program to be offered at Georgian College. It is a challenging task, however I feel fortunate to be able to participate in this leading edge development.
A bit about myself...
I am 23 years old and a band member of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. On my spare time I like to be fun, spontaneous and social. I enjoy traveling, House music, hearing live DJ's and meeting lots of different people. I have had the opportunity to travel within Canada and the United States and would like to see much more. Eventually, I hope to visit another continent.
As an extra curicular activity I am involved with a production company called Atomik Beat. We co-ordinate events that showcase Dj's spinning different types of Electronic music. We are a two person outfit so our events are fairly small. I co-ordinate the sound and lights and assist in selecting a venue for each event. My partner in crime confirms DJ’s and develops the DJ line-up for the entire evening. To date we have been successful in kicking-off two productions.
