Leduc No. 1 Rig completley setup, December 1946.The various survey methods used in the discovery of the Leduc Field was important to geophysicists. The process involved interpreting records that indicated the presence of buried reefs. It also allowed the geophysicists to interpret the edge of a known reef and its aerial extent. As a result, the geophysicists were able to identify the presence of possible reefs in other areas. The discovery was also important to paleontologists and geophysicists as it opened up a new and fascinating study of coral reefs within the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.
