Interview Themes

Oral Histories of the First World War: Veterans 1914-1918 is divided into seven sections based on the following themes: Second Ypres, Vimy Ridge, War in the Air, The Somme, Trench Warfare, Passchendaele and Perspectives on War. These themes were inspired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) source interviews for the radio broadcast In Flanders Fields, which originally aired from November 11, 1964 to March 7, 1965.

Each section offers background text on the theme and access to excerpts of radio interviews with veterans of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The excerpts have been digitized and are accompanied by unofficial translations of the CBC's original typed documents. Proper names are reproduced as found in the English originals.

A selection of photographic images are included in each theme section.
