Sir Robert Laird Borden, Prime Minister of Canada, to Sir George Halsey Perley, Minister of Overseas Military Forces, November 15, 1916
Borden expressed his immediate relief once Hughes announced his resignation. Even his Liberal political opponents seemed to be willing to drop their call for a snap election, thereby extending the life of the government.
