The outward tranquillity of this scene belies the fact that the final campaign was extremely bloody. The Battle of Amiens, for example, resulted in the loss of about 12,000 men in thirteen days, while the capture of Chérisy claimed nearly 5,750 lives in three days (perhaps the bloodiest confrontation of the war for Canada). By way of comparison, there were about 10,500 dead and wounded in six days at Vimy, about 24,000 in two months on the Somme in 1916, about 15,500 at Passchendaele from mid-October to mid-November 1917 and nearly 6,700 at Ypres from April 15 to May 3, 1915.
