Introduction

This is a guide to some of the National Library of Canada's major resources for researching American family roots. It includes, as well, some government and non-profit organization Web links. In addition to the titles cited here, the National Library holds many individual family genealogies, including ones with both Canadian and American roots. These are catalogued and kept in the Reading Room. The National Library also has substantial genealogical resources for tracing United Empire Loyalists. Unless otherwise indicated, all resources are in English only.

1. Getting Started

There are many print and Web guides on how to conduct genealogical research.
