Government of Canada Symposium: Achieving Excellence in Information Management
245 government executives and key IM stakeholders participated in the event. The objectives of the symposium were to share progress to date and to engage senior executives in addressing important IM challenges facing the Government of Canada. Participants heard from government leaders of Canada and the United States about what is being done to address the IM deficit, the IM tools and training currently available and what more needs to be done. In addition, awards were presented to departments that are "leading by example" in the IM field, by implementing new IM initiatives and sharing the results with their colleagues in other government departments. The target audience for the symposium included Deputy Ministers, key business Assistant Deputy Ministers and Managers, IM heads, Information Technology heads, Audit heads and Government-Online leads. The Government of Canada increasingly recognizes the value of our information assets. Treasury Board Secretariat, Library and Archives Canada and Statistics Canada, all lead agencies in IM, are collaborating on tools and guidance to be used in our efforts to improve information practices. To help departments in their efforts to improve IM, Symposium participants received an information folder of useful documents about the latest thinking on IM and the tools and training available. To make the session dynamic and to provide a forum for participants to share views, voting technology was used to gather information on the state of IM in Departments and in the Government overall.
