1942 - Greatest Stanley Cup Playoff Comeback

The greatest comeback story in Stanley Cup history is that of how Toronto won the series from Detroit, in 1942, after losing the first three games. After the third loss, Toronto Leafs' coach Hap (Happy) Day did something very surprising. He benched star forward Gord Drillon and the experienced defenceman Buck McDonald for the rest of the series. This caused a fuss among fans, who couldn't understand why Coach Day would do such a thing. But the Maple Leafs won the game and the Stanley Cup. Looks like the coach knew what he was doing!
