Jigsaw Instructions


1. Students will initially meet in their expert research (primary) groups to get reading assignments from their captains.

2. They will then branch out to computers to access the Backcheck: A Hockey Retrospective and read the assigned article(s). They should make rough notes of major points on a blank Handout 2.3 Document Research Organizer.

3. After finishing their research, students will re-assemble in expert groups to discuss their research and collectively make decisions as to which points to pull together for a second blank "Research Document organizer". The major two, three or more points from each of the articles should be written on the one organizer. All team members of the expert group should have the same points on their organizers, which will be shared with students when they branch out into new 'Oral/Aural Report' groups at the next stage of the process.

4. In the new secondary (reporting) groups, each member will make an oral presentation to the other three members of the new group. The other members in this group will have done research on other topics or subtopics that they will share with oral presentations. Each member of the group will use a separate Handout 2.4 Oral/Aural Report Organizer for each of the other three other oral reports.
