5. Returning borrowed items to Library and Archives CanadaLibraries returning borrowed items from Library and Archives Canada should be sure to enclose the retrieval slips with the items when returning them. These slips are attached by Library and Archives Canada to the items when they are sent out on loan, and it is useful for our processing if they are still attached when the items are returned. Libraries borrowing through interlibrary loan from Library and Archives Canada's collections assume responsibility for the safety and good condition of the borrowed materials from the time the material is charged out until it is returned to Library and Archives Canada. These materials should be returned in adequate protective packing. In some instances the material loaned is restricted for use on the premises of the borrowing library. It is the borrowing library's responsibility to ensure that restrictions are followed. Borrowers are responsible for replacing lost items or for paying a charge for lost items. When one volume of a multi-volume set is lost, the complete set should be replaced if the unique volume cannot be procured.
