Passenger liner Ausonia, of Liverpool, England, ca. 1939.
The Ausonia was built for the Cunard Line and launched in 1921 to carry passengers from Britain to Canada. With a capacity of almost 1,700 passengers, the Ausonia was a regular on the North Atlantic route. On April 3, 1925, she arrived at the port of Halifax with a large number of immigrants, many of whom came to Canada under the auspices of Empire Settlement schemes. Among them were Henry and Bessie Wells and their eight children, who planned to settle in New Brunswick.
