About the Catalogue, 1997 and 2010
Certain alterations to the content of the printed catalogue have been made, a great majority of these due either to time constraints or to the requirements of the electronic format. In particular, Appendix A, a self-contained catalogue of incunabula held by the Lowy Collection as of 1981, has been omitted. The Introduction has been modified to reflect these changes*. Corrections to typographical errors were made (and no doubt others have replaced them despite our best proofreading efforts), and the French translation has been revised in several places. Finally, a small number of corrections to the individual entries have been made where subsequent research has brought to light new information.
The fundamental purpose of this electronic edition is to promote the Jacob M. Lowy Collection to the widest possible audience, and to draw the public's attention to the availability of the printed catalogue. The physical beauty of the catalogue - the quality of its paper and the colours of its images -- cannot adequately be reflected electronically. Inquiries regarding the purchase of the printed catalogue (Cdn. $25.00) may be directed to the Council of the Jacob M. Lowy Collection, Room 157, Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON K1A 0N4 CANADA. Proceeds of the sale of the catalogue will go toward the acquisition of new material for the Jacob M. Lowy Collection.
*The incunabula catalogue and its indexes have been included as part of the 2010 update to the online catalogue Incunabula, Hebraica & Judaica.
