About This Site

Library and Archives Canada appreciates the contributions of Owen Cooke, Glenn Wright, Sandra Bell and James Dempsey. Owen Cooke is the former Chief Historical Archivist for the Directorate of History and Heritage, Department of National Defence and author of The Canadian Military Experience 1867-1995 : A Bibliography. Glenn Wright, a historian, archivist and genealogist, has worked for the National Archives of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and is the author of a number of books and articles on Canadian history, military history and genealogy. Sandra Bell, a Library and Archives Canada reference librarian, prepared the section on the South African War. James Dempsey, director of the School of Native Studies at the University of Alberta and author of Warriors of the King: Prairie Indians in World War I, prepared the section on Aboriginal Soldiers in the First World War.
