Military Justice

Unlike the Australians, Canada followed the British lead in executing soldiers convicted of desertion or cowardice in the face of the enemy during the First World War; writers have concentrated on this aspect of the military justice system.

Godefroy, A.B. -- For freedom and honour? The story of the 25 Canadian volunteers executed in the Great War. -- Nepean, Ont. : CEF Books, 1998. -- 95 p.

Madsen, Chris. -- Another kind of justice : Canadian military law from Confederation to Somalia. -- Vancouver : UBC Press, 1999. -- 236 p.

Morton, Desmond. -- "The supreme penalty : Canadian deaths by firing squad in the First World War". -- Queen's quarterly. -- Vol. 79, no. 3 (Autumn 1972). -- P. 345-352
