"Britannia's Wreath," by Susanna Moodie
Unpublished manuscript.

The Patrick Hamilton Ewing Collection of
Moodie-Strickland-Vickers-Ewing Family Papers, Series II, File 23

National Library of Canada

This manuscript poem is taken from the Patrick Hamilton Ewing Collection and provides an example of Susanna Moodie's handwriting and of her preparation of a manuscript. The poem was first published in Patriotic Songs (London: J. Green, 1830), a collection of seven poems with music by Susanna (under her maiden name, Strickland) and her older sister Agnes. "Britannia's Wreath" is the first song in the collection. In November 2000 the National Library of Canada purchased the only known copy of this book.
