Sub-series consists of correspondence concerning Letters Patent. The records include letters to or returned to the Department of Interior advising for Letters Patent. Letters Patent are instruments issued by the Crown, granting or confirming rights to a portion of land and are issued as the first title to land. The instrument serves as proof that the land has passed from the public domain and is often referred to colloquially as "crown grant" or "deed" or "title deed".
