Image depicts an encounter between a group of settlers, led by William Penn, and a group of Native Americans in an outdoor setting, at Pennsylvania, 1681. The two groups of men engage in dialogue at the centre of the scene, with a man kneeling in the middle. On the left is a seated Native American woman breastfeeding. Original painting by Pennsylvania-born artist Benjamin West commissioned in 1771 by Thomas Penn.
