Scope and content

Engraving depicts a group of Englishmen and the devil watching French clergymen dance around a copy of the Quebec Act. The Quebec Act established a legal code for Canada which included the Custom of Paris for civil suits. The ministers who appear to be directing the dance of the bishops are: Lord Buute, Prime Minister of Great Britain, 1762-1763, Lord North, Prmine Minister of Great Britain 1770 to 1782, and Lord Mansfield, Lord Chief Justice.
