Scope and content

Photomechanical reproduction of a painting by American artist J.W. Folger (1851-1918). Folger is best known for his ornamental wood carvings as well as his historical paintings of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Image depicts a view of Brant Point and the entrance to the harbour at Nantucket, from 1820 to 1842. There are numerous ships on the water, and a lighthouse in the centre of the scene. There is a page of text pasted on the verso explaining the picture and the history of Brant Point. Item is of unknown provenance.
