Information additionnelle

This item is based on an earlier work by William Bartlett (The Rapids Above the Falls of Niagara; see 1979-9-3; MIKAN 2839910). In 1855 a version of this work appeared in Charles A. Dana's "The United States Illustrated; in Views of City and Country." This illustrated book was published by Herrmann J. Meyer for whom the print was "drawn after nature." Meyer returned to Germany in 1856, and this version of the print also is inscribed as being, "Drawn after nature... For the Proprietor: Herrmann J. Meyer." The publisher, however, is Paul Bernhard, who took over Meyer's offices at 164 William St. in New York City after Meyer went back to his native land.
