Scope and content
Fonds consists of scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and photographs relating to the career of E.C. Mark, publisher of the "Shing Wah Daily News", 1925-1939, 1942, 1957, 19.5 cm; and two booklets commemorating the 50th anniversary of the "Shing Wah Daily News" published in Chinese, and a booklet, "A Tribute to Ernest C. Mark" in English and Chinese, 1972, 1973, 1.5 cm. The fonds also contains photographs showing the interior of the print shop of the "Shing Wah Daily News", Ont., 1977.

Biography / Administrative history
Ernest C. Mark came to Canada from China in 1916 to study medicine at the University of Toronto. Active in social and political organizations, he was unofficial mayor of Toronto's Chinatown for several years and was an active elder of the Chinese Presbyterian Church. He was publisher of the "Shing Wah Daily News", the largest Chinese newspaper in North America and one of the oldest surviving ethnic newspaper in Canada. In 1951 Mr. Mark was predeceased by his first wife Yuk Fong Mark. He later married Nancy Lau Mark.
