Letter from McGee to his wife, Mary, 1859, 1 page. The microfilmed correspondence which relates largely to McGee's early life, 1841-1873, is located on microfilm reel M-1594.

Biography / Administrative history
Thomas D'Arcy McGee was born in Ireland. He was a journalist who edited newspapers in Boston, 1842-1844; Ireland, 1845-1848; New York, 1848-1857; and Montreal, 1857, 1861. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Canada, 1858-1867, President of the Council, 1862-1863, Provincial Secretary, 1863, Minister of Agriculture 1864-1867. One of the Fathers of Confederation, he was murdered in Ottawa by a Fenian, 7 April 1868. He was a public speaker, poet and the author of works on Irish history.
