Biography / Administrative history

J.P. Sam, a member of the Mandarin class in Kwongtung, China emigrated to Canada in 1899. He worked as a court interpreter and established himself as an influential member in Toronto's Chinatown and the Chinese Freemasons Internal political disagreements lead to the family's moving to Wiarton, Ontario where Mr. Sam had established a restaurant business. He continued to act in legal matters concerning chinese Canadians until his death in 1947.
