Scope and content
Fonds consists of a diary, kept by the photographer H.L. Hime, of the expedition to the Assiniboine and Saskatchewan area in 1858, led by Henry Youle Hind. Entries are from 29 April to 30 November 1858, with some gaps. Also included are: a few notes on expenses; an envelope containing clippings; 5 pages of notes labelled "First trip", Aug. 1856; and some notes said to have been copied from a manuscript by H.L. Hime's younger daughter. The fonds also contains photographs taken by H.L. Hime during this expedition, 1857-1858.

Biography / Administrative history
Humphrey Lloyd Hime (1833-1903) was a photographer in the expedition to the Assiniboine and Saskatchewan area in 1858, led by Henry Youle Hind. Hime's contribution to this expedition is described in the book Camera in the Interim, 1858: H.L. Hime, photographer: the Assiniboine and Saskatchewan Exploring Expedition, compiled by Richard J. Huyda, Toronto, Coach House Press, ca. 1975.
Hime's later life was spent as a businessman in Toronto.
