Scope and content

Series consists of life history of Mr. Matsumoto, a carpenter of a ship-building family who owned the Matsumoto shipyards. The memoirs (in Japanese) note that the family had been shipbuilders for 400 years before coming to B.C. The memoirs note life in the internment camp at Slocan, his sponsorship of carpenters from Japan in 1972 and how he became a Christian. A selection of Haiku poetry written at Slocan and Vancouver is included. The originals were returned to the Matsumoto family. A summary by Joy Kogawa in English accompanies the papers.
