Series consists primarily of family correspondence, including letters between Lady Thompson and Sir John, correspondence from Sir John to his children as well as general correspondence with family friends. There are also a number of letters of sympathy written to Lady Thompson as well as clippings and other memorabilia collected after Thompson's death. The series also includes Lady Thompson's diary, and the correspondence of Margaret McGregor, a granddaugher of Sir John. The series consists of the following 7 sub-series: Lady Thompson; letters of sympathy; general correspondence; diary and other records; lists of subscriptions and other items; sons and daughters and finally, Margaret McGregor correspondence.
