Scope and content

This series includes the "Journal d'un fils de la Liberté..." by Louis-Joseph-Amédée Papineau, begun in 1837 shortly after he went into exile with his father and continued until 1855 under the title "Mon Journal" (originals, volumes 31-36), with an "Appendix au Journal d'un Fils de la Liberté..., volumes i et ii" (originals, volumes 37) which contains newspaper clippings and other documents serving as a source for the text of volumes 31-32. A partial transcription of the first four volumes was made in 1931 (volumes 19-23). Volumes 19 to 23 are available on microfilm reels C-15793 and C-15794. Volumes 31 to 37 are available on microfilm reel C-14025. The series also include the Memoires of Louis-Joseph-Amédée Papineau, n.d., covering the period 1819-1842 (volume 24). These are photocopies of a typescript; the original is at the Archives nationales du Québec. Volume 24 is available on microfilm reel C-15794.
