Biography / Administrative history

Sioux Lookout Agency was established on June 23, 1938. This agency brought together under one administrative unit the responsibility for a number of bands previously administered by the Kenora Agency as well as the Pikangikum Band which had previously been the responsibility of the Clandeboye Agency (Manitoba). Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The Sioux Lookout Agency became known as the Sioux Lookout District, effective 1 April 1969. RG10 General Inventory
