Biography / Administrative history
In 1922 the New Westminster Agency was divided and the Vancouver Agency formed with responsibility for the coastal bands from the mouth of the Fraser River north to Bute Inlet. In 1965 the Fraser Agency was formed through the amalgamation of the Vancouver Agency and the New Westminster Agency. Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The Fraser Agency was then combined with part of the Lytton Agency in 1969 to form the Fraser District. On 16 December 1975 the Fraser District office changed its name to the Vancouver District Office. On 15 July 1977 the Bella Coola District joined the Vancouver District office.
