Scope and content

Series consists of records from the Public Work's docket registry system. The registry operated between 1859 and 1879, although some items placed with these registry records fall outside these dates. The Department gave a number to each letter received and sent and the letters were filed by that number. In addition, each letter was given a subject number. The series includes official correspondence, registers and indexes, outgoing letters, reports to Council, registry files related to the Railway Branch and records of the Commission of Enquiry into matters relating to the Construction of the Parliament Buildings.
Series also consists of a wide variety of maps, plans and technical drawings pertaining to the official correspondence.
