Scope and content

Sub-series consists of registers of census returns, statistical calculations, account books and an index to correspondence. The `Registers of census returns' are incomplete lists of census enumerators for the years 1851 and 1886 to 1951 (Volumes 1275-1285, 1291, 1297-1298). The statistics compiled detail the nationality of homesteaders, 1891-1924 (Volumes 1286-1290), including a 1 volume compendium of 1905-1913 (Volume 1291). The characteristics of electoral districts based on the 1971 census, including population, household, family, dwelling, labour force and income (Volumes 1565-1569) are also detailed in various files. As well, there is an index to census correspondence for 1921 (Volumes 1293-1296).
