Scope and content
Series consists of five (5) ledger books providing details of salary payout to permanent employees of Dominion Bureau of Statistics between 1939 and 1950, as well as temporary help hired to process the 1941 census returns. Each list provides the name of the individual, the salary paid, and sometimes the date of the first appointment and the date of resignation, release or transfer (see Volumes 1572-1576). Also included are files from the Statistics Canada library, including letters to Sir Wilfred Laurier concerning British and American treaties affecting Canada, the Skelton Committee, the organization of the department etc., (see Volume 1300).

Biography / Administrative history
The Administration Branch of the Dominion Bureau of Statistics was established in 1918, when the organization was furst created. The branch was in existence, in various forms, until 1971 when Statistics Canada was created. The Administration Branch was responsible for all matters dealing with personnel, staffing, pay and benefits, finance and records.
