Scope and content
Series consists of bound typescript and near-print briefing notes, binders and loose correspondence assembled for the information of Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers responsible for immigration, 1973-1975. The documents were prepared for conferences and policy consultations relating to the Canadian Immigration and Population Study (Green Paper on Immigration) of 1974, and for meetings in preparation for the new Immigration Act of 1976. Topics covered include reviews of Immigration policy and legislation generally; provincial immigration concerns (with special reference to British Columbia, the Prairie provinces, and Ontario); "settlement" functions at both federal and provincial levels; control of foreign students in Canada; refusals to permit entry of specific individuals "in the national interest"; and appointments to the Immigration Appeal Board.
