Scope and content
Sub-series consists of records from the registry system known as the "500" block or Second Central Registry system. The system contained the Immigration service headquarters' core subject files active in the period from the end of the Second World War, ca. 1946-1966. It was established in 1946 to replace the First Central Registry System (which however continued in overlapping use for some purposes until 1953). The Second Central Registry System contains some documents dated as early as 1911 brought forward from the First System, as well as some dated as late as 1971. This registry system was officially superseded by the Third Central Registry System on 1 April 1966.
