Scope and content
Series consists of records created or accumulated in Immigration regional offices across Canada, as opposed to records created or accumulated at headquarters offices in Ottawa. The regional offices are responsible for coordinating field offices in larger regions both within and outside Canada. Prior to 1977 the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission, consisted of the five regional offices: the Atlantic Regional Office; the Québec Regional Office; the Ontario Regional Office; the Prairie Regional Office; and the Pacific Regional Office. As a result of a change in departmental policy in 1977, the multi-province regional concept was replaced by autonomous regions conforming to the provincial boundaries. The series includes a variety of central registry files, case files and subject files created and/or maintained by various immigration regional offices across Canada.
